Old Man

(parody of "Sandman" by America)
New lyrics by Mike Fischer

The Story: this was the first parody I wrote in what I called the "Doctrine Rock" series, which eventually became the band known as "Doktryn." My friend Ed and I, both rhythm guitarists who can't sing - some band. But we have fun, and the song isn't bad.

Devil's tempting outside. Scripture says we must resist him.
But there's passions inside. Did you think that you had missed them?

Funny, God's on high, the Spirit's here.
Why do we fight greed and lust and fear?

Chorus:
'Cause I understand you've been running from the man
Who goes by the name of the Old Man.
He plagues your soul just to drag you in a hole
With the habits that you've abandoned.

He knows all your old ways, sins you thought that you had ended.
Seek your Lord for power and pray, and be sure that you've repented.

Funny, God's on high, the Spirit's here.
Why do we fight greed and lust and fear?
